Exploring Resources in Barcelona
To truly explore natural resources in Barcelona is to identify the natural resources on a large scale, in the European region. Europe has numerous natural resources, from oil and natural gas to gold and uranium. In Northern Europe, natural resources are largely metals such as bauxite, copper and iron. In Southern Europe, regions such as Italy have substantial reserves of coal, mercury, and zinc. Eastern Europe depends heavily on large natural gas and oil reserves. Most significantly, Western Europe, specifically Spain and France, share strong coal and zinc reserves, as well as copper and lead. Spain's natural resources are inclusive of coal, lignite, iron, ore, copper, lead, zinc, uranium, tungsten, mercury, magnesite, gypsum, kaolin, potash, hydropower and arable land. While Barcelona is influenced by these resources, Barcelona is significant for its marine resources. In fact, the exploitation of marine resources by hunter-gatherer groups roots back as far as the Middle Paleolithic. It was in this time period that evidence of the remains of sea mammals, molluscs and fish were formed. Marine resources in Barcelona trace back to the early people fishing in the ocean, which is still the case today. The myriad of natural resources that formed around fishing and marine exploitation are essential in Barcelona. The molluscs, fishes, marine mammals and many other marine species play a large role in Barcelona's natural resources. Samples of Patella vulgata, a molluscs found in the waters of Barcelona
